Perfectly Pretty Patchwork Baby Quilt

Hello there!

I was thrilled to join in and make a sweet baby quilt from the Perfectly Pretty Patchwork book authored by Kristyne Czepuryk of Pretty by Hand. Everything in it is so sweet and you can tell there is so much attention to detail. I was so happy I was able to participate and support a friend who is extremely talented (definitely check out her Instagram feed and you’ll see what I’m talking about).

I chose to make the Flying Geese Baby Quilt! As you can see, I used various green prints from our collections and some from designer Corey Yoder. Lately, I have been dreaming of Spring so green was the perfect color for this quilt.

This quilt was easy to piece which is totally my jam! If you need to whip up a baby quilt that’s cute and quick to make then it’s going to be your go to! I even had leftover triangles that I saved to make a matching pillow set!

I didn’t have time to get this quilted so be sure to check Kristyne’s feed for more fun pictures and extra details! She added the sweetest lace trimming to her quilt and I can’t wait to add some to mine!

Bloomtopia Release 1

Hello there!

Today is the day! Bloomtopia Release 1 day to be exact! I am so excited to share some fun information about the charity quilt along as well as the cute blocks in Release 1! Before I go into things…if you are just joining in on all the fun you can find the Bloomtopia fabric requirements here!

I really enjoyed making the blocks in Release 1 (yes, you heard me right…there are TWO cute blocks in Release 1, the Over and Under block and the Bright Future’s Variation block!)

Bloomtopia Release 1 Blocks, Over and Under & Bright Future’s Variation

These blocks are fast and easy to piece. For the Over and Under block you will be using an easy corner method and simple piecing. These tend to go quickly as you’ll be able to chain piece.

For the Bright Future’s Variation block you will be using triangle paper. I will admit this was my first time working with triangle paper and I absolutely loved it! This method ensures that you have perfect half square triangles for your finished block. I’m definitely sold and will be using this method more often. You can find the Bloomtopia Release 1 here!

You’ll also note that I used our most recent fabric line, Summer Sweet. We were thrilled when Fat Quarter Shop wanted to use Summer Sweet for Bloomtopia! If you were able to snag a cute kit from Fat Quarter Shop I hope you enjoy these bright colors and fun prints! We have sure loved how happy they are and I am so excited to see everybody’s different versions too! Merry Mini Quilt Christmas Quilt Along: Week 4

Hello there and happy Tuesday!! Welcome to week four of the Merry Mini Quilt Christmas quilt along! I can’t believe we are nearing the end of all the fun!

This weeks block hosted by Pat Sloan is the Tree Block.

I have been using Harper’s Garden for this project. The reds and greens from our collection are a bright and perfectly festive match for the Tree Block!

One of my favorite things about this quilt along is the easy construction used to piece the blocks. Plus, I really love a good mini project that goes together quickly. I’m always looking for quick to piece projects that I can whip out right before a holiday!

Merry Mini Quilt Christmas Quilt Along: Week 3

Happy Tuesday! Today I will be sharing Fat Quarter shops week three block for the Merry Mini Quilt Christmas Quilt Along! If you’re sewing along I will have the link to this week’s block posted below!

Block 3: The House Block

This weeks block is the House Block! I am still using the Navy and Aqua prints from our Harper’s Garden collection, but I also added a print from a previous collection, Creekside, for some variety! This block was simple and fast construction. I think it turned out so cute! You can download the pattern instructions for this pattern here!

Merry Mini Quilt Christmas Quilt Along: Week 2

Hello there and happy Tuesday! If you’re looking for a cute quilt along that is merry, mini, and Christmas related then you have definitely found the right place! If you are new around here, welcome to my blog! My name is Chelsi! I am a Moda Fabric Designer with my mom Sherri McConnell (A Quilting Life), I am a pattern writer (I started my pattern company a year ago), and I’m an all around creative soul! I love drawing so designing fabric has been an absolute dream come true! Plus sharing all of it with my mom has been the cherry on top!

Today is the second week of the Fat Quarter Shop Merry Mini Quilt Christmas Quilt Along and I am so excited to share my block with you! I love a good fun quilt along and these cute blocks make it really easy to join in!

I am using our Harper’s Garden fabric for my quilt! The reds, greens, and blues were a perfect fit to match the colors in Fat Quarter Shop’s mini quilt! I can’t wait to see your versions and fabric choices as well!

Block Two: The Snowflake Block

This week’s block is the Snowflake Block! I really enjoyed making this and I think it’s so cute! I was able to use some of the aqua and navy prints from Harper’s Garden for this block to give that perfect snowflake look! This block uses simple construction and goes together quickly! Merry Mini Christmas Quilt Along: Week 1

Well hello there! Today I am going to be sharing my first block in the Fat Quarter Shop Merry Mini Christmas Quilt Along! I love Quilt Along’s…especially when they are easy and cute!

Our first week’s block, the Poinsettia Block, was hosted by Sherri McConnell! You can find her blog post here!

As you can see, we both chose to use our Harper’s Garden collection, but we chose different prints! Funny enough we didn’t plan that so we had a good laugh about it!

This block is easy construction and goes together quickly, but Sherri has some great tips and tricks for even simpler construction if you want to check it out in the link I posted above!

Splendid Sampler II: Happy Days Block

Hi! Welcome to my blog! For those of you who are new around here, my name is Chelsi and I’m so happy you’re here! Here’s a little bit about myself…I’m a mom to three beautiful kids, I’m a Moda Fabric Designer alongside my mom Sherri McConnell (A Quilting Life), I design quilt patterns, and I love to create!

I am so excited to share my Splendid Sampler block with you all today! My block, Happy Days, can be found on page 30 of the Splendid Sampler II book! Any day filled with fabric and quilting is always the happiest of days! Quilting has become a wonderful creative outlet that always leaves my heart feeling full. There’s something special about making a quilt that lasts a lifetime and will be cherished by my little ones.

My Happy Days block goes together quickly and easily! When designing blocks and patterns I tend to stick to simple. This block represents that perfectly with easy cuts and piecing that will probably make you want to make more than one!

I was so excited when Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson asked me along for the Splendid Sampler ride! I love quilting with an entire community of people! It makes it fun and inspiring!

Patriotic Stars Tutorial

Hello everyone! Summer is here which means lots of swimming, family activities, and maybe a little bit of sewing!

Speaking of sewing, I really love this fun quilt I made!

Last year I made this fun patriotic quilt using all of the red, creams, and blues from our Creekside fabric line. While I had planned to post it a lot earlier, life got busy (story of my life), but it’s never too late to start a new quilt right?!?!

I really love this quilt and it is simple to make! Ohio Stars and Nine Patches make it easy and fun! P.S. You can use any fabrics you want, this was just a variation from our Creekside fabric line that I absolutely loved! The colors and prints really popped which was what I was looking for! I hope you enjoy this tutorial!

Patriotic Stars Tutorial:

Note: Always press well and press using preferred method!

Cutting:

Nine Patch Blocks:

Blue Squares– (85) 4 1/2″ squares

Background Squares– (68) 4 1/2″ squares

This will make 17 Nine Patch Blocks.

Star Blocks:

Red Squares: (36) 5 1/2″ squares

(18) 4 1/2″ squares

Background Squares: (36) 5 1/2″ squares

(72) 4 1/2″ squares

This will make 18 Star Blocks.

Block Instructions:

Nine Patch Block:

Each Nine Patch Block consists of 4 background squares and 5 blue squares.

1. Assemble squares as show below.

2. Sew three squares together to make a row. Make three rows as shown.

3. Sew the rows together as shown to make one block. Block should measure 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ unfinished.

4. Make 17 Nine Patch Blocks.

Star Block:

Each Star Block consists of (4) 4 1/2″ background squares, (2) 5 1/2″ background squares, (2) 5 1/2″ red squares, and (1) 4 1/2″ red square.

1. First you need to make your half square triangles. Draw a diagonal line corner to corner on the back of each of the 5 1/2″ background squares.

2. Place the red and background 5 1/2″ squares right sides together and sew 1/4″ away from both sides of the line. Cut and press. You should have 4 half square triangles.

3. To make your quarter square triangles you will be repeating steps one and two. Take your half square triangles and place them right sides together with the opposite colors touching. Sew 1/4″ away from both sides of the line. Cut and press. Now you should have 4 quarter square triangles for your block. Trim quarter square triangles to 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″.

5. Assemble the block as shown below. Sew squares into rows and then continue to sew rows together as shown to complete the block. Block should measure 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ unfinished.

6. Make 18 Star Blocks.

 

Quilt Assembly:

Alternate your blocks to make the quilt as shown below. Sew all the the blocks into rows and then continue by sewing all of your rows together to complete the quilt. Quilt should measure 60 1/2″ x 84 1/2″.

Heart Pillow Tutorial

Hello everyone!

A year ago I made some Valentine’s quilts using the heart and star block from Thimbleblossom’s Hand Made with Love pattern and I finally got around to getting them quilted and bound, but of course I felt like I was missing something so I decided to whip up some pillows out of our newest fabric collection, The Front Porch. Here is the pillow I made!

I had a lot of love and interest in this so I thought I would share a little tutorial on how to make it! Valentines is just around the corner so this is perfect for your daughters bedroom, entryway, or family room! This is my first tutorial so hopefully everything looks OK! Thanks for all the love and happy making!!

Cutting:

Hearts:

Cut 12 pink squares 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ (half square triangles)

Cute 12 ivory squares 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ (half square triangles)

Cut 6 pink squares 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

Cut 6 ivory squares 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

Sashing and Borders:

*Note: Make sure to measure your blocks before adding sashing as well as side and outer borders. Just in case!

Cut 2 low volume strips 1″ x 6 1/2″ (Sashing)

Cut 2 low volume strips 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ (Side Borders)

Cut 2 low volume strips 6 1/2″ x 30 1/2″ (Outer Borders)

Binding:

3 strips 2 1/4″ x WOF

Batting

Muslin for pillow front backing

Pillow backing fabric–I used two rectangles

Make Heart Blocks:

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ background square and place right sides together with each 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ pink square. Sew a 1/4″ away from either side of that line. Press seams open. You will make 24 hst’s total!

Trim half square triangles down to 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ and layout blocks as shown in diagram below.

Assemble Pillow Top:

1. Sew blocks and sashing together as shown.

2. Add left and right borders and press outward.

3. Add top and bottom borders and press outward.

4. Layer pillow top, batting, and muslin. Quilt as desired. I chose to do vertical straight lines.

5. Trim pillow to measure 18″ x 30″

6. Use desired method to make pillow back. I chose to just do an envelope back!

7. Bind the pillow with prepared binding. I chose to do pink for my binding!
